CPR Guidelines and its Importance in Lifesaving

CPR is the emergency medical support that can be performed by a CPR certified professional or by a lay rescuer. This procedure is done within 2 minutes but extreme care must be taken by the performer if the patient is under extreme risks like troublesome breathing, cardiac shock, choke in the bronchial tract etc. According to the AHA CPR guidelines, it has become important in saving the life of the patients suffering under extreme emergency conditions.

  • According to the guidelines, the basic algorithm of these AHA guidelines is the CPR performer or the lay rescuer should follow the principle Look, Listen and Feel. The stress must be immediately activated and the chest compressions should be made by the performer to the patient; this is done only when the patient is under gasps.
  • Hands-only; the performer or the lay rescuer should perform chest compressions in emergency conditions only. People who are not given any training or not certified with a valid certification are called Lay-rescuers and also can perform this medical procedure.
  • The patients must be initiated with breaths, positioning of the head and neck should be maintained easily. Mouth-to-mouth, it can be done by big mask device. This device helps the patient to provide with artificial ventilation.
  • At the beginning of procedure the performer should give 30 compressions at once without delay. If delayed the effectiveness of the procedure is gone.
  • High quality of CPR must be carried out, if the performer does inadequate compressions, if the compressions are below 30 it may lead to death of the patient.
  • If appropriate chest compressions are made, the depth and rate are maintained. This helps the patient to recoil his/her chest.
  • The performer can even undergo some medical procedures like rhythm detection, rescue breathing, compressions, drug administration in the form of injections, and shock delivery but the performer must be certified enough to perform this procedure.
