CPR Certification and The Red Cross Society

The validity and recognition of CPR courses are very varied. Most organizations do not recognize the online CPR course 100% or online certification in CPR that does not involve a training practice.

Major emergency services only recognize the certifications provided by organizations like the American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety Council, etc. The certification of CPR provided by these organizations always has hands on training.

American Red Cross:

  • American Red Cross is one organization that offers various courses in first aid including CPR        course. CPR certification is universally recognized and is valid for one year.
  • You can renew your certification by a review course, if the certification is valid. This course is a review of the relevant material, followed by an examination.
  • If the certificate has expired, you can take a challenge course to renew it. A challenge course can be taken by any person, is part of an evaluation session, and no teaching component.

In general, before taking a CPR certification online, do research and find out if it is a recognized certification course or not. This can be done simply by asking for the license number of the company of your particular state. If you are performing CPR certification as required by your organization, make sure that your organization recognizes that particular course or certification.

CPR Certification Types:

There are three types of certificates of CPR, adults, infants and children and pets. Most organizations that offer certifications provide CPR certification for all three types.
